Nothing Exists Until It Moves
Hutchinson | Kemp (2025)
A body enters a world that cannot be seen—
only sensed through disruption.
Soil shifts.
Stones scatter.
Bushes tremble into awareness.
Using a computer vision technique known as frame differencing,
the film removes stillness, isolating motion as the only trace of presence.
The screen becomes a threshold:
what doesn’t move, doesn’t exist.
A meditation on transformation, emergence,
and the invisible forces that shape perception.
Created during a residency at @joya_air, January 2025.
Nothing Exists Until It Moves premiered at Interface Inagh during Moving Earth Eco Dance Day, and has been selected for the Light Moves Biennale where it will be screened in October 2025.
